Oh Pam,

I won't lie--it's stressful, sad and I'll grieve leaving this place (I've lived in these same blocks since 1989). The neighborhood is full of little midcentury homes and wonderful old maples, firs and other trees. Even some sequoias. I am nuts--I talk to them and they talk to me. They urge me to keep caring, keep loving, keep advocating for those who need help. Thank you for your lovingkindness. On a different note, I suddenly put together "Joe" and "Mulcaire." Is this the same guy from Cortez who graduated in 1968? I have that yearbook. Much love to you, Linda

Yes same guy!!! missing him something terrible-

Do you have any direction which way you will go? I had a friend in a similar situation and took in a roommate to help offset expenses-it worked out

You have rights! It will be worth the money to consult a lawyer who specializes in landlord-tenant rights. I bet the owner won't be able to raise your rent more than a specified and controlled percentage each year. Reading your description also made me think she's asked you to do things that you legally don't have to do and certainly not without written, not verbal, notice. Please don't accept this lying down!

She trapped me by having me signed her silly paper. She does give written notice. I have chatted with the Eugene/Springfield Tenant Association and they say that unless she threatens us (was that a threat?) we can't do much. Personally, I love this place/neighborhood, but I don't think I can deal with her. And if she vacates the home for the remodel, I wonder if she can set rent for next tenant any way she pleases? We pay below market rate. Thank you for your encouragement. Hugs, Linda

I will pray every day that what was meant for your harm God will use for your good, but at the same time, I do not want to minimize what you must be feeling. I wish I was there to help you.

Oh Linda. I am so sorry you have such a horrible landlord. I have a 66 year old brother who was born with intellectual disabilities. He came to live with us two years ago and it has been life changing. He is high functioning but we depend on his medicaid, medicare and social security to help take care of him. While our finances are good, I have come to know so many in his community of friends that they do not have those same backups. It is frightening

to see what is happening. I appreciate you sharing your story. and I will be praying for you.

Janet,

It was a bit uncomfortable to share my personal situation, but I think if people KNOW actual people who are getting the short end of the stick, it could put a face on a stereotype. Thanks for the prayers--I'll need them. Hugs, Linda

Grrrrr. You have special grace, I'm well and truly pissed off on your behalf. Hrmph I say.

Power to the people indeed.

Every day--even every hour if I don't switch off the external inputs--yields up cruelty and unfathomableness which can be numbingly normalizing. The glimmers out there, your Cory Booker reference being one, seem few and far between. Let's grab them and amplify them to restore safety and security. I'm confident you'll land on your feet, but oh the brutal disruption and uncertainty.

Yours,

LNBB

p.s. If this is too political and you don't wish to post it, I'd understand.

This is too political. I've lost a few subscribers, but I decided to stop trying to say stuff without political implications--it's just too enmeshed these days. I too hope I land on my feet. I saw that Lance cut down the dandies--I couldn't make it over with all this going on. I do hope we can see each other soon--missing you. Love, LBB PS: My biggest worry is for BunBun! Who'd want a 10yo bunny? IDK. Lord have mercy.
